About the Organisers
This workshop is made possible by a group of four students from Dunman High School who participated in the annual Youths for Causes (YFC) event, championing their cause: to reduce food wastage. They have partnered with the FoodBank Singapore in order to achieve the common goal of reducing food wastage and raising funds, which will all go to support the work of FoodBank. Their project tackles the issue of ugly foods: blemished produce that is often labelled with the assumption that they are not as nutritious as their better-looking counterparts. People often shun upon this type of produce in grocery stores, hence they hope that through this class, they can correct this misconception by demonstrating how ugly foods can be used to create quality dishes.
About Youth For Causes
Citi-YMCA Youth For Causes (YFC) is a community initiative started by Citi and the YMCA of Singapore in 2003. Funded by Citi Foundation, the programme serves as a catalyst to promote social entrepreneurship and community leadership development among Singapore youths.
YFC provides us with a platform and also a seed funding in order to allow us to execute our self-initiated project to raise awareness about our cause, which is food wastage. Not only so, YFC allowed us to connect with people who are also passionate about this cause.
